A group of local volunteers spent last Saturday cleaning up Oakwood Beach after recent storms left it littered with debris. The popular swimming spot, located just outside of town, had been hit by strong winds and high tides that washed up everything from plastic bottles to fishing gear along the shoreline. Nearly thirty residents showed up with garbage bags and gloves to help restore the beach to its natural state. The cleanup was organized by community member Janet Wilson, who noticed the problem while walking her dog. "I was shocked by how much trash had accumulated," Wilson said. "Our beach is usually so beautiful, and I knew we needed to do something quickly." The volunteers collected over fifty bags of garbage during the four-hour event. They also found several unusual items, including a refrigerator door and an intact child's bicycle that had apparently been swept out to sea. Local resident Tom Peterson, who participated with his two children, remarked, "It's important to teach kids about taking care of our environment. Plus, we all want a clean beach to enjoy this summer." The town council has now installed additional garbage bins at the beach entrance to help prevent future littering.
