CELPIP Test Dates 2026: How Often It Runs and How Soon You Can Sit It
By Natania · Booking and test day · Published · 5 min read
CELPIP does not have a fixed national calendar. Each test centre sets its own sessions, so the dates open to you depend on where you live and how busy your local centres are. This post explains how to find real dates, how often the test usually runs, how far ahead to book and how to pick a date that leaves room for results and a possible retake. We do not list specific dates here because they change constantly; the official CELPIP booking page is the only reliable source.
How do I find CELPIP test dates?
Create an account on the official CELPIP website, choose your test type, and search for centres near you. The booking page shows the available dates and start times for each centre.
Dates are listed per centre, so compare several. A centre 30 minutes further away may have a seat weeks earlier. Seats are only held when you pay, so if you find a date you want, book it rather than coming back later.
How often is the CELPIP test held?
In large Canadian cities CELPIP-General usually runs several times a month, often including weekends; smaller centres and centres outside Canada typically run fewer sessions.
CELPIP-General LS may have its own sessions or share days with CELPIP-General, depending on the centre. There is no limit on how often you can take the test, but each attempt is booked and paid separately, and you have to wait for one result before a retake makes sense.
How soon can I sit CELPIP after booking?
Sometimes within a week or two if a nearby centre has seats, but registration closes shortly before each session and popular dates fill early, so plan on booking at least three to six weeks ahead.
Being able to test soon is not the same as being ready. If a mock test puts you below your target, an early date mostly buys you a disappointing result and a second fee. Book the date that gives you time to close the gap.
When do CELPIP seats fill up fastest?
Weekend sessions in big cities fill first, and demand tends to rise whenever many people are working to the same deadline, such as before program changes, at the end of the academic year and before holiday periods.
- Weekends: popular with people who work full time; book these earliest.
- Late spring and summer: students and graduates applying for work permits or permanent residence add demand.
- Before major holidays: fewer sessions run, and people try to test before the break.
- After IRCC announcements: changes to draws or programs can send many people to book at once.
These are general patterns, not rules. If dates look scarce, check again over the following days, because cancellations can reopen seats.
How do I pick a test date from my deadline?
Work backwards: start from the date you must submit or enter the pool, subtract time for a possible retake, results and re-evaluation, then subtract your study time. The date you are left with is your latest sensible test date.
| Step | Allow | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Results | About 1 week | Results usually arrive within about a week, often sooner |
| Possible re-evaluation | 1–2 weeks | If one rated skill is just short |
| Possible retake | 3–6 weeks | Finding a seat, then another week for results |
| Study time | 4–8 weeks or more | Depends on your gap to the target CLB |
Remember the other end too: IRCC accepts results for two years from the test date, and the result must still be valid when you submit your application. Testing very early is rarely a problem, but testing more than two years before you apply is.
Should I book now or wait until I feel ready?
Book once a mock test shows you are close to your target, and choose a date far enough out to finish the remaining preparation. A fixed date helps most people study consistently.
Waiting until you feel completely ready often means never booking, while booking too early wastes a fee. A simple rule: take a timed mock test, and if you are within one level of your target in every skill, book a date four to six weeks away. If you are further away, study first and test again before booking. Check the rescheduling deadline and fee before you pay, in case you need to move the date.
What should I do once my date is booked?
Put the test date and the rescheduling deadline in your calendar, check the confirmation for errors, then turn the weeks you have into a study plan aimed at your weakest skill.
In the final week, switch from learning new material to timed practice and rest. The night before, prepare your ID, route and arrival time so test morning has no surprises.
Can I change my CELPIP test date after booking?
Usually yes, up to the rescheduling deadline, which is often about seven days before the test and longer in some places, and a fee applies. After the deadline, you generally cannot move the date, and missing the test normally means losing the fee.
Moving to a new date also depends on seats being available, so a late change in a busy season may push your test further out than you would like. If you think your plans might change, choose a date you are confident about from the start, and note the rescheduling deadline in your calendar on the day you book. Read the current policy on the official CELPIP website before you pay, as fees and deadlines change and can differ outside Canada.
If something serious comes up close to the test, contact CELPIP as soon as possible and ask what is possible rather than simply not attending.
