Where CELPIP fits

Alberta's language points top out at CLB 6, so if one skill is at CLB 4 or 5, raising it is the cheapest points you can add. Beyond CLB 6, a higher CELPIP score matters for Alberta Express Entry and the federal programs: see your CRS points with the CELPIP score calculator, and find your weakest section with the free diagnostic.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AAIP Worker EOI points grid work?

Alberta scores every Worker Expression of Interest out of 100: 69 points for human capital (education 22, language 13, work experience 21, age 5, family in Alberta 8) and 31 for an Alberta job offer (10 for the offer, 6 for a rural community or priority sector, 5 for a job outside Calgary and Edmonton, 10 for a regulated occupation you're licensed in). One grid serves every worker stream.

How many AAIP points does CELPIP give?

Alberta uses your lowest CLB across the four skills: CLB 6 or more gives 10, CLB 5 gives 8 and CLB 4 gives 5. A French test scores 8, 5 or 3 at NCLC 6, 5 or 4, and the better of the two counts. CLB or NCLC 4 or more on both an English and a French test adds 3.

What is a good AAIP score?

Draws are by stream, pathway or sector. In the draws up to October 7, 2026, the lowest invited score ranged from 49 (Law Enforcement Pathway) to 64 (Priority Sectors), and Alberta Opportunity Stream draws needed 54 to 58. Alberta also says points are not the only consideration.

What CLB do I need for AAIP?

CLB 4 in English or NCLC 4 in French in all four skills to submit a Worker EOI. To apply once invited, the Alberta Opportunity and Rural Renewal streams need CLB 5 for TEER 0–3 jobs and CLB 4 for TEER 4–5 (CLB 7 for nurse aides), and Tourism and Hospitality needs CLB 4. Alberta Express Entry follows the federal program's minimums.

Does AAIP give more points for CLB 9?

No. Alberta's grid tops out at CLB 6, so CLB 9 and CLB 6 earn the same 10 language points. A higher CELPIP score still matters for the Alberta Express Entry stream, which needs a CRS score of 300 or more, and for the federal programs themselves.

Does it cost anything to submit an AAIP Worker EOI?

Yes. Since April 7, 2026, submitting a Worker EOI costs $135. An EOI stays in the pool for one year and can be edited.
