The BC PNP points grid

Your registration is scored on five factors. Human capital (work experience, education and language) is worth up to 120 points, and the economic factors (wage and region) up to 80.

Directly related work experience (max 40)

Paid work in the same NOC code as your B.C. job offer, in the last 10 years. Part-time work counts at half its length. You get 10 more points for at least a year of it in Canada, and 10 more if you already work full-time in B.C. for the employer, in the job's occupation.

Education (max 40)

Only your highest completed credential counts. Finishing it at a B.C. post-secondary institution adds 8 points (6 elsewhere in Canada), and an eligible B.C. professional designation, such as a SkilledTradesBC certificate or registration as a practical nurse, adds 5.

Scored on your lowest CLB across listening, reading, writing and speaking, so a CELPIP result of 9, 9, 9 and 7 earns the CLB 7 points. A second official language at CLB 4 or more in every skill adds 10.

Where CELPIP fits

Language is the one factor you can raise without changing jobs. Because only your lowest skill counts, check which CELPIP section is weakest: the free diagnostic predicts your CLB in each, and our guide to CELPIP score requirements lists the minimums for federal programs. If you're also in the Express Entry pool, a BC PNP nomination through the Express Entry BC option adds 600 CRS points: see your CRS language points with the CELPIP score calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is the BC PNP score calculated?

The Skills Immigration Registration System scores you out of 200: up to 120 for human capital (directly related work experience, education and language, 40 each) and up to 80 for economic factors (55 for the hourly wage of your B.C. job offer and 25 for where in B.C. the job is).

How many BC PNP points does CELPIP give?

Points come from your lowest CLB across the four skills: CLB 9 or more gives 30, CLB 8 gives 25, CLB 7 gives 20, CLB 6 gives 15, CLB 5 gives 10 and CLB 4 gives 5. Passing both an English and a French test at CLB 4 or more adds 10, up to 40. A CELPIP level is the same CLB level.

What is a good BC PNP score?

It depends on the draw. In the rounds up to October 15, 2026, priority health care occupations needed 76 to 100 points, construction trades 94 to 101, early childhood educators 99 to 111, and the general high economic impact rounds 131 to 136. Check WelcomeBC for the latest rounds.

What is the fastest way to raise a BC PNP score?

Language is usually the factor you control most. Only your lowest skill counts, so one weak skill holds the whole 30 points back: moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 in every skill adds 10 points. A higher wage or a job outside Metro Vancouver also adds points, but they depend on the job offer.

What CLB do I need for BC PNP?

A job offer in a NOC TEER 2, 3, 4 or 5 occupation needs CLB 4 in all four skills. TEER 0 and 1 job offers have no fixed minimum, but you need a valid test to claim language points and the BC PNP can ask for one. CELPIP General, IELTS General Training, PTE Core, TEF Canada and TCF Canada are accepted, and results are valid for two years.

How is the hourly wage worked out for a salary?

Divide the annual salary by 52 and then by the weekly hours, using between 30 and 40 hours. For example, $80,000 a year at 40 hours a week is about $38.46 an hour, which earns 23 points. Bonuses, overtime, tips and allowances don't count.
