How Much Does CELPIP Cost in 2026? Fees, Extras and the Real Budget

By Natania · Booking and test day · Published · 7 min read

The CELPIP fee is only part of what the test costs you. Tax, a possible retake, a re-evaluation and your preparation all add up, and a cancellation at the wrong time can cost you the full fee. This post sets out what we could confirm on the official CELPIP website, checked October 2026. Fees are set by Paragon Testing Enterprises and change from time to time, so the price shown when you book is always the one that counts. How much does CELPIP cost in Canada in 2026?

When we checked in October 2026, the official CELPIP website listed CELPIP-General at a little under CAD $300 plus tax and CELPIP-General LS at a little under CAD $200 plus tax. The official pages did not all show the same figure, so treat the price on the booking page as the real one.

CELPIP fees in Canada (checked October 2026; confirm when you book)
TestWho it is forFee in Canada
CELPIP-GeneralPermanent residence (Express Entry, provincial nominee programs), Australian visas and most other usesA little under CAD $300, plus tax
CELPIP-General LSCanadian citizenship only (Listening and Speaking)A little under CAD $200, plus tax

Why no exact figure? Different official CELPIP pages showed slightly different prices when we checked, and we would rather send you to the booking page than print a number that is out of date. Whatever the exact amount, the gap between the two tests is about CAD $100, so booking the right one matters: an LS result cannot be used for permanent residence.

How much tax is added to the CELPIP fee?

Sales tax is added on top of the listed fee, and the amount depends on where you take the test, so you only see the exact total at checkout.

Official pages quote the fee "plus taxes (where applicable)" without a breakdown by province or territory. If you are comparing centres in two provinces, run each one through the booking page to the payment step and compare the totals before you pay.

What optional extras cost money?

The main paid extra you can confirm on the official website is a re-evaluation of your score; we could not confirm a current paid option for faster results, and the official score report is a PDF you download from your account.

  • Re-evaluation: you can ask for one or more sections of CELPIP-General to be re-evaluated within six months of your test date, once per section. You pay when you apply, and the official policy says the fee for a Speaking or Writing re-evaluation is refunded if your score goes up. The result usually comes back in about one to two weeks. Check the current fee in your CELPIP account before you apply.
  • Results: standard results appear in your online CELPIP account within a few business days of the test. When we checked, we could not find a paid faster-results option on the official pages, so do not plan your deadline around one.
  • Score reports: hard-copy score reports have been discontinued. You download the official score report as a PDF, and you can list receiving institutions in your account so they can verify your score; you still submit the report yourself as each institution asks.

A re-evaluation makes sense when one Writing or Speaking result is a level below what your practice suggested and below what you need. If you missed by two levels or more, a better-prepared retake is usually the safer bet.

What does it cost to reschedule or cancel CELPIP?

Cancelling well ahead gets part of your fee back, and cancelling late gets nothing: on the official pages we checked for Canada, a cancellation at least seven calendar days before the test refunds 50% of the fee, and a later one refunds nothing.

  • You request a cancellation through your CELPIP account.
  • The notice period is not the same everywhere. Some test centres and countries, including the United States, use nine calendar days instead of seven, so read the policy shown for your centre when you book.
  • A registration cannot be transferred to another person.
  • If you arrive late and are refused entry, you are not eligible for a refund or a transfer.
  • If Paragon cancels a session, it offers a refund or a place in another session.

We could not confirm a separate, fixed rescheduling fee on the official pages, so check the options in your account before you book a date you are unsure of. The cheapest strategy is simple: pick a date you are confident you can keep, and decide early if you need to change it.

What is the real budget for CELPIP, including a retake?

Plan for the test fee plus tax, and keep a second full fee in reserve: if one section falls short of your target, a retake means paying the full fee again.

What to budget for CELPIP-General in Canada (an example, not an official fee list)
ItemWhen it appliesCost
First attemptAlwaysA little under CAD $300, plus tax
Second attemptIf one section misses your targetAnother full fee, plus tax
Re-evaluationOptional, if a Writing or Speaking result looks wrongFee shown in your CELPIP account
Late cancellationCancelling inside the notice periodYou lose the full fee
PreparationBefore the testFree practice up to a paid plan or course
TravelIf the nearest centre is far awayTransport, and possibly a night away

Two attempts at CELPIP-General come to a little under CAD $600 plus tax. Seen that way, preparation that saves you one attempt pays for itself several times over, and a retake you book without changing your preparation is often the most expensive mistake on the list.

How much does CELPIP cost outside Canada?

Outside Canada, CELPIP fees are set locally and charged in local currency, so the fee in India, the Philippines, Nigeria or Australia is not simply the Canadian price converted.

The official website says international pricing varies, and we could not confirm current local fees for these countries in October 2026, so we have not printed any. To find yours, start a booking on the official CELPIP website, choose your country and centre, and the fee is shown before you pay. Check at the same time that there is a centre you can reach, as some countries have only one or two, and seats can fill quickly.

  • India: book through the official CELPIP website and choose your city; the fee is shown in your booking.
  • Philippines and Nigeria: check the official centre list for current locations and dates before you plan around a test date.
  • Australia: Home Affairs accepts only tests taken in person at a test centre, so budget for travel to a centre in a major city.

How can I avoid paying for a wasted attempt?

Find your level in each section before you book, and only sit the real test once your practice results are at or above your target in every section.

The CELPass free plan is built for exactly that check. It includes a free diagnostic of about 25 minutes that predicts your CLB in each section, one full AI-scored mock test, three AI-scored Speaking or Writing answers, and daily drills. If you need more practice, paid plans come with a 7-day money-back guarantee as long as you have used no more than 10 practice tests. CELPass scores are estimates to guide your study, not official CELPIP scores.

Frequently asked questions

Is CELPIP-General LS cheaper than CELPIP-General?

Yes, by about CAD $100 in Canada, because it tests only Listening and Speaking. But it is accepted only for Canadian citizenship, so book it only if that is what you are applying for.

Do I get a refund if I cancel my CELPIP test?

Partly, if you cancel early enough. On the official pages we checked for Canada, cancelling at least seven calendar days before the test refunds half the fee; some centres and countries use nine days. Later cancellations get no refund.

Is a re-evaluation cheaper than a retake?

Usually, and a Speaking or Writing re-evaluation fee is refunded if your score goes up. It only helps if you were close to the next level, though; if you missed by more, a retake after better preparation is usually the better use of money.

Why doesn't this page give the exact CELPIP fee?

When we checked in October 2026, official CELPIP pages showed slightly different figures, and fees change from time to time. The fee shown on the booking page before you pay is the one that applies.
