How Long Do CELPIP Results Take? Results, Express Rating and Re-evaluation
By Natania · Booking and test day · Published · 5 min read
The days after CELPIP can feel longer than the test itself. This post explains when results normally arrive, how to get them faster, what to do once they appear, and when a re-evaluation is worth asking for. Processing times and fees are set by Paragon Testing Enterprises and can change, so check the official CELPIP website for the current figures before you plan around them.
How long do CELPIP results take?
CELPIP results usually appear in your online CELPIP account within about a week of the test, often sooner; a typical range is about three to five business days.
Business days do not include weekends or statutory holidays, so a test on a Friday or just before a long weekend can take a little longer in calendar days. Listening and Reading are scored automatically, but Writing and Speaking are rated by trained raters, which is why results are not instant. You will usually get an email when your results are ready, but it is worth logging in to your account rather than waiting for the email.
What is CELPIP Express Rating?
Express Rating is an optional paid service that gets your results to you faster than the standard processing time. You add it when you book, or check whether it can be added later, on the official CELPIP website.
It is useful when a real deadline is close, for example an Express Entry invitation that expires soon or a provincial program that closes on a fixed date. If you have weeks to spare, the standard timing is fine and the extra fee is better spent on practice. Check the current price and the promised turnaround before you pay, and remember that faster results do not change the score itself.
| Standard | Express Rating | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical timing | Within about a week, often sooner | Faster than standard |
| Cost | Included in the test fee | Extra fee |
| Best for | Most test takers | A deadline within days |
Where do I see my CELPIP results?
In the same online CELPIP account you used to book. Your score report shows a CELPIP level for each skill, and each CELPIP level corresponds to the same CLB level.
You can download your official score report from your account. When you apply to IRCC you enter your test details, such as the test date and the registration or report number, and upload the report when asked. Keep a PDF copy somewhere safe along with your login details, because you may need it again months later.
What should I do when my results arrive?
Check each skill against your program's minimum, note the test date (it decides how long the result stays valid), and update your application or Express Entry profile with the new result.
- Compare each skill with the CLB your program requires. One skill below the minimum is enough to make you ineligible, even if the others are high.
- Check the test date and work out when the result stops being valid for IRCC.
- If you are in the Express Entry pool, update your profile so your CRS score reflects the new result.
- If one rated skill is just short, decide between a re-evaluation and a retake (see below).
- Download and save the score report.
How does CELPIP re-evaluation work?
Re-evaluation is a paid request for your Writing or Speaking responses to be rated again. Under the published terms you request it within six months of your test date, the result typically comes back in one to two weeks, and the fee is refunded if your level goes up.
Only the rated sections, Writing and Speaking, can be re-evaluated. Listening and Reading are scored automatically, so a second look would not change them. Your level can stay the same or go up; read the official terms for what happens in every case before you request one.
- Consider it when one rated skill is a single level below your target and the other skills are fine.
- It is usually less useful when you are two or more levels short; a retake with better preparation is more realistic.
- If a deadline is close, book a retake date as a backup while the re-evaluation is in progress, and check the rescheduling rules in case you no longer need it.
How do I plan around the wait for results?
Leave at least two weeks between your test date and any deadline, and more if you might need a re-evaluation or a retake.
A comfortable plan allows about a week for results, one to two weeks for a re-evaluation if it comes to that, and enough time after that to book and sit another test. Centres can be full for weeks in busy seasons, so a test taken a few days before a deadline leaves no room for anything to go wrong.
Can I find out my likely result before the real test?
Yes, roughly. A full timed mock test in the real format gives you a predicted CLB for each skill, which is the best way to avoid waiting a week for a result that falls short.
Practice scores are estimates, not official results, but they tell you which section is furthest from your target while there is still time to fix it. If the mock test shows you below your target in one skill, a couple of weeks of focused practice on that skill is cheaper and faster than a retake.
Why might my CELPIP results take longer than usual?
Most results arrive on time, but weekends, statutory holidays, busy testing periods and occasional extra review of a response can add a few days. If your results are well past the usual window, contact CELPIP through the official website rather than booking another test.
- Count business days, not calendar days, from your test date.
- Check your spam folder and log in to your account directly; the results may be there even if the email did not arrive.
- Make sure the email address in your account is one you still use.
- If a deadline is at risk, explain the deadline when you contact CELPIP and ask what options exist.
- Keep your booking confirmation and test date handy, since you will be asked for them.
If your application deadline cannot move, the safest protection is time: test early enough that a few days' delay does not matter.
