The six steps
Speaking and Writing
- Learn the task. How to organise your answer, what to do with your time, common mistakes and useful phrases, then a quick check.
- Study a model answer. A high-scoring answer with each part labelled and explained, then rebuild it from memory.
- Fill the phrase. Put the missing phrases back into another strong answer.
- Fix the mistakes. Find and correct one mistake in each sentence of a Good answer.
- Plan and write (Writing: Plan in 5 minutes). Plan and write your own answer, then compare it with an Excellent one.
- Speak with the real timer (Writing: Write with the real timer). Answer a new question with the real timers and record yourself.
Reading and Listening
- Learn the part. How the part works, how to use your time, the traps it sets and the signal words, then a quick check.
- Study a worked example. A passage with each answer's proof marked and the trap in every wrong option named.
- Find the evidence. The right answer is given: find the sentence that proves it.
- Spot the trap. Wrong options that look right: name the trap each one sets.
- Guided practice. A whole passage with the strategy as prompts, then every answer explained.
- Answer with the real timer. A new passage with the real timer and the answer key.

Questions about the course
Is the CELPIP practice course free?
Yes. Every step of every task and part is free and needs no account. Your answers and recordings stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded or saved.
How long does one task or part take?
About 30 minutes for a Speaking task, 45 for a Writing task and 40 for a Reading or Listening part, including the timed answer. Each step takes 4 to 12 minutes, so you can do one step at a time.
Which task should I start with?
Your weakest one. If you don't know it yet, start with Part 1 or Task 1 of the skill you find hardest: it teaches the habits the later ones use (a clear plan for Speaking and Writing, finding the proof for each answer in Reading and Listening).
Can I get my answer scored?
Reading and Listening answers are checked with the answer key. Speaking and Writing answers are compared with an Excellent one and a checklist; with a free CELPass account, our AI scores them on the four CELPIP dimensions and labels every mistake.
Is this an official CELPIP course?
