WOMAN: Hi there! I saw a poster about lifeguard training courses. I'd love to get more information about becoming a lifeguard here at the community pool.
MAN: Of course! I'm Dave, the head lifeguard. We're actually starting a new training course next month. Have you had any previous experience as a lifeguard?
WOMAN: No, this would be my first time. I'm a strong swimmer though - I was on my high school swim team, and I still swim laps here three times a week.
MAN: That's great! You'll need to pass a swimming test before starting the course. It includes swimming 400 meters continuously, treading water for two minutes without using your arms, and retrieving a brick from the deep end.
WOMAN: That sounds challenging! How long is the actual training course?
MAN: The course runs for three weeks, with classes every Tuesday and Thursday evening, plus Saturday mornings. You'll learn everything from basic water rescue techniques to CPR and first aid certification.
WOMAN: What about the cost? And do you provide all the materials?
MAN: The course fee includes your textbook, CPR mask, and certification fees. We also provide rescue tubes and other equipment during training. You'll just need to bring your own swimsuit and goggles.
WOMAN: That sounds reasonable. What kind of job opportunities are available after certification?
MAN: We're actually looking to hire several lifeguards for the summer season. The certification is also valid at any pool or beach in the country for two years. Many of our graduates work at water parks or private pools too.
WOMAN: Perfect! And what's the minimum age requirement?
MAN: You need to be at least 15 years old by the final day of the course. Also, I should mention that attendance is mandatory for all sessions - you can't miss any classes.
WOMAN: That works for me! How do I sign up?
MAN: You can register at the front desk. They'll schedule your swimming test and give you all the necessary forms. The next course starts on the 15th, so I'd recommend signing up soon - spaces fill up quickly!
WOMAN: Thanks so much for all the information. I'll head to the front desk right now!
