News Anchor: A cyberattack on the City of Hamilton’s online portal has exposed the personal data of approximately 23,000 residents. The breach was discovered late Friday after city staff noticed suspicious activity within the municipal payment system. Hackers are believed to have accessed names, home addresses, and partial credit card information. No social insurance numbers or banking passwords were compromised, according to officials. The city’s IT department immediately shut down the affected systems and launched an internal investigation. Cybersecurity experts have also been brought in to assess the damage. Affected residents will be contacted directly and offered free credit monitoring for 12 months. Mayor Linda Cho called the breach “deeply troubling” and pledged to upgrade the city’s digital security infrastructure.
