News Anchor: The provincial government of Alberta has announced that the minimum wage will rise from $15 to $16.20 per hour starting September 1st. This marks the first increase in four years and is aimed at helping workers keep up with inflation and rising living costs. Labour Minister Carla Jennings stated that the decision was based on data from Statistics Canada, which showed a 6% cost-of-living increase over the past year. Small business groups have expressed concern about how the wage hike might affect staffing and pricing, but many workers welcomed the move. The province says it will monitor economic impacts closely and may introduce support programs for affected businesses.
