CELPIP Speaking Task 2 Sample Answer: Trying a New Hobby

Last year, inspired by a documentary, I took up pottery as a new hobby, eager to create something tangible with my hands. I enrolled in a local class, where I learned to shape clay on a wheel, though my first attempts were wobbly and frustrating. The process was meditative, and I felt a surge of accomplishment when I crafted my first bowl. That moment of seeing my creation come to life was exhilarating. This hobby not only sparked my creativity but also taught me resilience and the joy of embracing imperfection in art and life.

A few months ago, I decided to try gardening as a new hobby because I wanted to grow my own vegetables. I started with a small pot of tomatoes on my balcony, learning how to water and care for them. At first, I was nervous about making mistakes, but when the plants grew, I felt so excited and proud. Harvesting my first tomatoes was rewarding. This experience taught me patience and gave me a new way to relax and connect with nature.

Last summer, I tried painting as a new hobby. My friend gave me some paints and a canvas to start. I made a picture of a tree, but it was not very good.
