The question

CELPIP Speaking Task 4 practice picture: Street

In this picture, what do you think will most probably happen next?

Excellent answer (transcript): around CLB 11–12

As the city moves through evening rush hour, I can foresee the traffic continuing to slow as more commuters pour into the streets. People walking briskly will likely continue their pace, eager to get home or head to after-work activities, with some stopping at stores or grabbing a quick snack on the way. The cyclists navigating through the cars will face increased challenges as the street becomes more congested. With the city lights brightening and advertisements glowing, I predict that as the evening progresses, the energy of rush hour will transition into a quieter post-work crowd, with the streets slowly becoming less crowded. The buses will continue to operate, but the focus will shift to the quieter rhythms of the city as night settles in.

Good answer (transcript): around CLB 7–8

This bustling street during the evening rush hour shows the usual city activity with people walking quickly, carrying bags, and moving between the traffic. I predict that the congestion will likely continue as people try to get home or to their destinations. The cyclists weaving through the cars will probably have to adjust their path as the traffic becomes denser. The buses will continue their routes, but the overall traffic may stay slow. As the city transitions into the night, the bright lights and advertisements will become even more prominent, and the rush hour will likely shift into a quieter evening commute.

Basic answer (transcript): around CLB 4–5

In this picture, the street is very busy with people walking quickly. Some are carrying bags, and others are going somewhere after work. The cars are stuck in traffic, and some buses are moving. I think the traffic will continue to be slow, and people will keep walking quickly to get home. The cyclists will likely keep weaving through the cars. As it gets darker, more lights will turn on, and the city will continue to be busy.
