**Option 1:

-Renting an Apartment

-Lower upfront costs

-Flexible lease terms

-No property maintenance

-Rent can increase over time

**Option 2:

-Buying a House

-Build equity over time

-Stable monthly payments (mortgage)

-Responsible for repairs and upkeep

-Requires large down payment

***Alternative Choice (Your Family Member’s Preference):

Buying a house is an investment, gives you more space and freedom to renovate, and provides long-term stability.

Excellent answer (transcript): around CLB 11–12

Although buying a house offers the benefit of long-term stability and is often seen as a smart investment, I believe renting an apartment is the wiser choice for someone at the start of their career. Renting means less financial risk, lower upfront costs, and more flexibility if circumstances change. I don’t have to worry about expensive repairs or property taxes. Until I am fully settled, renting provides the freedom and peace of mind I need.

Good answer (transcript): around CLB 7–8

Buying a house is a good investment, but I prefer renting an apartment. Renting has a lower cost in the beginning, and I don’t have to worry about repairs or big bills. If my job changes, I can move easily. For someone starting out, renting is more practical.

Basic answer (transcript): around CLB 4–5

I like renting an apartment. It is cheaper at the start and easy to move if I want. I don’t have to fix things myself. Buying a house is good, but it costs a lot. Renting is better for me now.
