The question

Your company is planning to introduce a new workplace wellness program to improve employees' health and productivity. Some employees suggest creating a mental health and stress management program, including meditation sessions, counseling services, and relaxation spaces. Others prefer a physical fitness program, which would provide gym memberships, workout sessions, and nutrition advice. Since the company has a limited budget, only one program can be introduced. The HR department is gathering employee feedback before making a decision.

Which option do you prefer? Why?

-Option A: Implement a mental health and stress management program.

-Option B: Introduce a physical fitness program for employees.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

I strongly advocate for Option A, as prioritizing mental health initiatives in the workplace yields long-term benefits for both employees and the organization. Workplace stress and mental health issues significantly impact productivity, job satisfaction, and overall well-being. Studies show that companies investing in mental health programs experience reduced absenteeism, higher engagement, and increased efficiency. By offering meditation sessions, counseling, and relaxation spaces, employers create an environment that fosters resilience and emotional stability. While physical fitness is undeniably important, stress and burnout are more pressing concerns in high-pressure work environments. Employees can pursue personal fitness outside the workplace, but mental health support often requires structured programs and professional guidance. Investing in mental well-being ensures a healthier, more motivated workforce and contributes to a positive and sustainable company culture.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I support Option A because mental health is a key factor in workplace productivity and overall well-being. First, many employees experience stress due to work pressure and deadlines. Providing meditation sessions and counseling services would help them manage their stress more effectively, leading to a healthier work environment. Second, mental health problems, such as anxiety and burnout, often go unnoticed. Having a company-supported program would encourage employees to seek help without stigma. While physical fitness is important, many employees may already have access to gyms outside of work. A mental health program would be a unique benefit that supports emotional well-being and professional success.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I choose Option A because stress is a big problem for many workers. People work long hours and feel very tired. If the company gives meditation and counseling, employees will feel better. Also, stress can make people sick. When workers feel too much pressure, they cannot focus. A mental health program will help them work better and be happy. Exercise is good, but not everyone likes to go to the gym. I think mental health is more important because it helps all workers feel good.
