Official CELPIP Practice Test Bundles vs CELPass Mock Exams

If you are ready for full CELPIP practice tests, there are two main ways to get them: the official practice test bundles sold in the CELPIP store, or full mock exams on a practice platform such as CELPass. Both give you complete tests in the real format and timing. The big difference is what happens after you finish, especially for Speaking and Writing. A note on bias: CELPass is our own product, an independent platform not affiliated with CELPIP or Paragon Testing Enterprises. We describe the official products only from what celpip.ca publishes, checked 16 October 2026.
Should I buy official CELPIP bundles or use CELPass mock exams?
Use CELPass mock exams for most of your full-test practice, and keep one or two official tests as final checks. A CELPass mock gives you similar questions at the same difficulty in the same complete test, then scores your own Speaking and Writing with AI, which the official bundles do not do, and shows exactly which mistakes cost you points.

Are CELPass mock exams as good as the official tests?
They are built to the same standard: similar questions, the same difficulty level and the same test. Every CELPass mock is built by experienced CELPIP teachers, with AI assisting, and modelled on the official CELPIP-General practice tests, task by task, in format, timing, topics, question style and difficulty, so a full CELPass mock feels like test day and gives you a realistic picture of your level. In our internal survey of 1,856 students who took the CELPIP test, 97% said CELPass mock tests are similar to the official test. What they are not is official items: only Paragon writes the real test, and a CELPass result is a practice estimate, not an official CELPIP score.
- Built by experienced CELPIP teachers: they set each task, check it against the official practice tests and pitch it at the right level; AI assists with drafting, voices and pictures, so there are more tests to practise with.
- Similar questions: the same kinds of everyday situations, workplace emails, news items and opinion topics as the official tests.

What does AI scoring add that the official bundles do not have?
A score on your own answers. With the official bundles you read the performance standards and sample responses and judge your own email or recording, which is hard to do accurately at CLB 7 to 9. CELPass scores every Writing and Speaking answer in seconds, so you know your level after every mock, not only on test day.
- The four CELPIP rating areas scored separately: Content and Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability (Listenability in Speaking) and Task Fulfillment.
- A CLB range for each answer rather than one guessed number, because one answer is limited evidence.
- Every mistake labelled in your own text or transcript, with a better version to compare.
- Speaking measured from your recording: speaking pace, long pauses, fillers and word clarity, not only the words.

What happens after a CELPass mock?
Your mock turns into a study plan. Official tests tell you your Listening and Reading results; CELPass also tells you why you got them and what to practise next.
- A score report with a CLB for each section and the mistakes costing you the most points.
- Error Analysis ranks your mistake types by how much they cost you and tracks them mock by mock.
- A score simulator shows a likely CLB range if the fixes you pick hold.
- Daily 5-card drills are built from your own mistakes.
- Peer Insights (paid plans) shows your percentile against learners aiming for the same CLB. While the community grows, its pools include modelled benchmark learners, and the page says so.
Which costs less, official bundles or CELPass?
For regular full-test practice, CELPass usually costs less per test because paid plans include unlimited mocks and AI scoring: CA$39 a month, CA$79 every 3 months or CA$199 a year. Official sets are priced per two tests, with a discount for bundles, and scoring your Speaking and Writing would need a teacher on top. Check the official store for current prices.
CELPass can also end up free: on any paid plan, finish at least 5 full CELPass mocks and score CLB 9 or higher in all four skills on the official test within 45 days of your first payment, and CELPass refunds everything you paid up to the test date.
When are the official bundles still worth buying?
When you are close to your target and want a final check written by the test maker. Take the two free official tests first, practise with CELPass mocks in between, and if you want more official checkpoints, buy one set rather than a large bundle.
