CELPIP Listening Part 2 Practice Test: Salsa Dancing Social Night

WOMAN: Excuse me, I saw the poster about salsa dancing social nights. Could you tell me more about it?

MAN: Of course! I'm actually one of the instructors here. We have social dancing every Friday night, but we also offer beginner classes if you're new to salsa.

WOMAN: That's perfect because I'm a complete beginner. I've always wanted to learn but never had the chance. How does it work exactly?

MAN: Well, the beginner classes run for six weeks, every Tuesday evening. We teach all the basic steps and turns. Then on Fridays, you can come to practice what you've learned at our social nights.

WOMAN: Do I need to bring a partner to the classes?

MAN: Not at all! Most people come on their own. We rotate partners during the lessons, which is great for learning to dance with different people. It's also a fantastic way to meet new friends.

WOMAN: That's a relief! And what about the social nights? Are they very formal?

MAN: They're very casual and fun! We start with a short group warm-up, then it's open dancing. There's usually a mix of beginners and more experienced dancers. Everyone's very friendly and supportive.

WOMAN: What about the music? Is it all traditional salsa?

MAN: We play a variety of Latin music - salsa, bachata, merengue. Sometimes we even throw in some cha-cha-cha. The first hour is usually slower songs for beginners.

WOMAN: That sounds great! And what should I wear?

MAN: Comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in. Many people bring a change of shoes - something with a smooth sole works best. And maybe bring a water bottle, it can get quite energetic!

WOMAN: Perfect! When does the next beginner course start?

MAN: We're starting a new group next Tuesday. Would you like me to add your name to the list?
