NARRATOR: An Oshawa man took an unexpected trip down memory lane last weekend when he spotted his childhood bicycle at a neighbourhood yard sale. Forty-six-year-old Daniel Fortin was out searching for a secondhand lawnmower on Saturday morning when a faded red bicycle with a white banana seat caught his attention. Fortin says there was no doubt, because of the initials he had scratched under the seat when he was nine years old. The bike had disappeared from his family's garage in 1988, and his parents assumed it had been stolen. The seller, a retired schoolteacher, explained that she had purchased it at a church rummage sale decades ago for her own son, who eventually outgrew it. After hearing Fortin's story, she refused to accept the twenty dollars marked on the price tag. Fortin acknowledges the bicycle is now far too small for him to ride. Instead, he intends to restore it with his eleven-year-old daughter throughout the winter, and he hopes she will be riding it by next spring. As for the lawnmower, he went home without one.
