The question

Do you think schools should stop giving homework to students? Explain your opinion, considering the effects of homework on learning, stress, and family time.

Excellent answer (transcript): around CLB 11–12

In my opinion, homework assignments should be significantly reduced or eliminated because they often contribute to student burnout and diminish overall learning quality. While homework is intended to reinforce concepts, excessive assignments can lead to stress and fatigue, limiting time for essential activities such as family interaction, physical exercise, and creative pursuits. Furthermore, many students do not receive adequate support at home, which can increase educational inequalities. Schools should prioritize effective in-class teaching and use alternative methods like project-based learning to engage students more meaningfully. Therefore, removing traditional homework could enhance both academic outcomes and student well-being.

Good answer (transcript): around CLB 7–8

I believe homework should be reduced or eliminated in schools because it often creates unnecessary stress for students. After spending many hours at school, students need time to relax and engage in other important activities like sports or family time. Excessive homework can also reduce motivation and limit creativity. Instead, schools could focus on quality learning during class time. However, some practice outside school can be helpful. Overall, less homework would improve students’ well-being and learning experience.

Basic answer (transcript): around CLB 4–5

I think homework should be stopped because it makes students tired. After school, students want to rest or play, but homework takes time. Sometimes homework is too hard and causes stress. Without homework, students can have more free time for family and hobbies.
