The question

Your city wants to encourage more residents to get involved in volunteer activities. You’ve been asked for your thoughts on how to motivate people to participate.

How can the city boost volunteerism? What do you think?

- Option A: Create a central website listing all local volunteer opportunities.

- Option B: Offer certificates or awards to active community volunteers.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

Developing a comprehensive online platform (Option A) would significantly increase accessibility to volunteer opportunities. By streamlining information, the city removes a key barrier to engagement. While public recognition is meaningful, access and awareness are fundamental for higher participation rates.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

A central website would make it much easier for people to find volunteer activities that match their interests. While certificates might encourage some volunteers, more people will participate if they can easily see what’s available. So, option A is more practical.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I think a website with all the volunteer jobs is a good idea. Sometimes, I don’t know where to help. If everything is in one place, it’s easy to find. Awards are nice, but first, people need to know how to start. I choose option A.
