Section 1 of 3
What issue is Nia trying to resolve?
Why does Nia reject involving the landlord?
What does Nia decide to do?
Transcript (read it after you answer)
Nia: My neighbors’ loud music keeps me up, Sam. I want to address it politely. Ideas?
Sam: That’s tricky! You could write a kind note asking them to lower the volume. Or talk to them in person—calmly explain the issue. Another option is involving the landlord, but that’s less friendly.
Nia: A landlord feels extreme. A note’s too passive. I’ll try talking. How do I start?
Sam: Be friendly, mention the noise politely, and suggest a quieter time. They’ll appreciate the approach.
Nia: Sounds reasonable. I’ll do it.
Section 2 of 3
What concern does Nia have about talking to her neighbors?
What does Sam suggest?
Transcript (read it after you answer)
Nia: I’m going to talk to my neighbors, Sam, but when’s the best time? During the day or evening?
Sam: Daytime’s better—they’re likely calmer and not partying. Approach them politely, maybe bring cookies to break the ice.
Nia: Cookies are a nice touch! I’ll go tomorrow morning and mention the late-night music. Should I suggest a specific time for quiet?
Sam: Yeah, propose after 10 p.m. for quieter hours. They’ll respect that.
Section 3 of 3
Why is talking in the morning with cookies the best choice?
What will Nia do during the conversation?
When will Nia update Sam on the outcome?
Transcript (read it after you answer)
Nia: I’m set to talk to my neighbors tomorrow morning, Sam. I’ll bring cookies and ask for quieter nights after 10 p.m.
Sam: Great plan! Why’d you choose that approach?
Nia: It’s direct but friendly, and cookies soften the request. I think they’ll listen. I’ll say the music’s been keeping me up and suggest quieter evenings.
Sam: Perfect. Want me to come for support?
Nia: Thanks, but I’ll handle it. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow afternoon.
