MAN: The Willowbrook Community Choir, a thirty-six-member group that ordinarily rehearses in the basement of St. Aidan's church hall, has been invited to perform at the Nordholm International Choral Festival, which will draw ensembles from more than twenty-five countries to the harbour city of Vesterby this coming September. The invitation reached conductor Owen Bramwell by email nine days ago, and he initially dismissed it as spam. "I nearly deleted the message before noticing the festival's official seal," Bramwell admitted, "and only then did I realize it was genuine." The opportunity originated from a video of the choir performing an obscure sea shanty, posted online by a choir member's daughter four months ago, which festival talent scout Ingrid Larsen later found while searching for unconventional folk repertoire. Larsen described the recording as having a raw honesty that trained choirs rarely manage, and she advocated for the group before the festival's programming committee for nearly six weeks to secure one of only forty available slots. Because membership fees cannot cover the roughly eleven thousand dollars needed for travel, the choir launched an emergency fundraiser that has already gathered close to sixty percent of the target within just five days, though organizers caution that the remaining balance is not yet guaranteed. Bramwell, who has led the choir for eight years without expecting international attention, said members will now rehearse new material befitting the occasion. The choir departs for Vesterby on the third of September.
