Transcript (read it after you answer)

Sophie: Alright, community committee, we need to launch a recycling program to reduce waste in our neighborhood. It should be easy for residents to participate. Any ideas?

Mark: I think we should set up curbside recycling bins. People can toss their recyclables in, and the city picks them up weekly. It’s simple and convenient.

Tom: Curbside bins are great, Mark, but the city might charge extra for the service, which could deter some residents. What about a drop-off recycling station at the community center? It’s cheaper and centralized.

Sophie: A drop-off station is cost-effective, but it might not be convenient for everyone, especially those without cars. What if we try a hybrid approach? We could have a few neighborhood drop-off points and promote carpooling to them.

Mark: I like the hybrid idea, Sophie, but we’d need to find suitable locations for the drop-off points. Some spots might get cluttered or attract litter.

Tom: That’s a valid concern. What about partnering with local businesses? They could host drop-off bins in their parking lots, and we’d promote their stores in return. It keeps the bins accessible and tidy.

Sophie: That’s brilliant, Tom! Businesses would benefit, and residents would have convenient options. My only worry is the maintenance—who’d empty the bins regularly?

Mark: We could coordinate with the city’s waste management team to schedule pickups. If we show it’s a community effort, they might agree to help without extra fees.

Tom: I’m sold on the business-hosted drop-off points. We can start with a pilot at three stores and expand if it works. Let’s also create a flyer to educate residents on what’s recyclable.

Sophie: Perfect. Let’s go with the drop-off points at local businesses. Mark, can you contact the city about pickup schedules?

Mark: Sure, I’ll call them tomorrow.

Tom: I’ll reach out to store managers to pitch the idea.

Sophie: Great. I’ll design the flyer and post it online. This recycling program is going to make a big difference!
