Dear Kai,

Six of us stood in the parking lot on Saturday the seventh while somebody hunted for the lighting switch, and by the time the centre gave up the beginner hour was gone. Amina's group is now one lesson short of what the term promised, and assessment morning falls on the twenty-eighth. I am writing before the weekend sheet goes up, because I think there is a way to put that hour back.

A drop-in credit landed on my card overnight, which the office plainly meant kindly. It buys my daughter a swim at any public session, and a swim is not the hour she lost. Forty minutes of Amina standing over her, correcting her breathing and writing down what she sees, is what the twenty-eighth is scored from.

Amina told me in the parking lot that her ten o'clock lane on the fourteenth is empty, since the improvers are away at the meet in Kingsbury. I put it to the other five families in our group chat on Sunday, and every one of them can be there. Nobody would move up a level, nobody would change coaches, and the children would already be dry and dressed from their own nine o'clock hour.

I know a centre cannot rebuild a term around one power outage, and I am not asking for a private class or an extra week added to anybody's term. One lost hour, one empty lane, the same coach and the same six children, and the term ends where it always did. If fewer than four families answer you, drop the whole idea: keep the credit on my card, and I will not bring it up again. Amina's notes on each child should still reach whoever runs the assessment, whatever happens to the lane.

Could you hold the ten o'clock lane and send the six of us something we can sign directly, instead of a general notice nobody opens? A yes or a no by Thursday the twelfth would be plenty, because the sheet goes up on Friday morning and any lane nobody has claimed goes back to open swim. I would rather you released it than held it for a lesson that never fills.

Regards,

Yvonne

Dear Yvonne,

The incident record from the seventh puts the lost hour down to , which nobody at the desk explained to you. Ten o'clock on the fourteenth is blocked out now, with the beginners marked against it. The one thing I cannot do is ; the system only takes families already on a class list, so send me the six names by Wednesday evening and I will enter them by hand. Amina has one paid hour that morning and no more, so the makeup runs thirty-five minutes. The money already sitting on your card went out automatically the moment the class was voided, and your note about it struck me as , so I am leaving it alone until the count comes in. One more thing from the record: your group is still , so I have asked the desk to leave the nine o'clock hour until the term ends. Whatever the count comes to, will reach whoever scores the children.

Best,

Kai
