The question
Tell me about a public speaking experience you had. What was the occasion, how did you prepare, and how did you feel after speaking?
Excellent answer (transcript): around CLB 11–12
One of my most significant public speaking experiences was when I was asked to deliver a speech at my best friend’s wedding as the maid of honor.
I was incredibly nervous because I had never spoken in front of such a large crowd—there were over 100 guests.
I spent weeks writing the speech, making sure it was heartfelt and funny, and I practiced in front of a mirror to get my timing right.
When the moment came, I felt my heart racing, but as I spoke, I saw people laughing and tearing up at the right moments, which gave me a boost of confidence.
Afterward, I felt an incredible sense of relief and pride, and my friend told me it was her favorite part of the day.
That experience taught me how to connect with an audience and made me more comfortable with public speaking.
