CELPIP Speaking Task 2 Sample Answer: Saving Money for a Goal

Last year, I set out to save for a weekend getaway with my closest friends, eager to create lasting memories. To make it happen, I canceled unused subscriptions, cooked meals at home instead of dining out, and diligently tracked my budget for six months. When I finally booked the trip with my savings, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and independence. The getaway was unforgettable, filled with laughter and adventure, but the real reward was knowing my discipline had paid off. This experience reinforced my confidence in managing finances and inspired me to set bigger goals.

A few months ago, I decided to save for a new smartphone because my old one was slow. To save money, I stopped eating out at restaurants and made my own meals. I also put $20 from my paycheck into a savings account every week. After three months, I had enough to buy the phone. I felt so proud and relieved because I didn’t need to borrow money. This experience taught me how to plan better and be patient to reach my goals.

Last year, I wanted to buy a new pair of shoes, so I started saving money. I stopped buying snacks and drinks when I was out. Every week, I put a little money in a jar. It took two months, but I finally had enough. I felt very happy when I bought the shoes because I worked hard to save. Now I know I can save money if I try.
