The question

Do you think gasoline cars will disappear by 2050 and electric vehicles will take over? Explain your view, considering technology, environment, and infrastructure.

Excellent answer (transcript): around CLB 11–12

In my view, electric vehicles are poised to largely replace gasoline-powered cars by 2050 due to a combination of environmental imperatives, technological advancements, and evolving government policies. EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, which is crucial in combating climate change and urban air pollution. Advances in battery technology have improved driving range and reduced costs, making EVs increasingly accessible. Moreover, many countries are implementing strict regulations and incentives to phase out gasoline cars. However, challenges such as the need for widespread charging infrastructure and sustainable battery recycling remain. Despite these obstacles, it is reasonable to expect that electric vehicles will become the dominant mode of personal transport within the next few decades.

Good answer (transcript): around CLB 7–8

I believe electric vehicles (EVs) will mostly replace gasoline cars by 2050 because of growing environmental concerns and improvements in technology. EVs produce less pollution and help reduce climate change. Governments are also encouraging people to buy electric cars by giving incentives. However, the full replacement depends on building enough charging stations and making EVs affordable for everyone. So, while it might not be 100%, I think electric vehicles will dominate the roads in the future.
