The question

You live in a busy city with few green spaces nearby, and you’ve often wished there were more parks or gardens to relax in after a long day. Now, your city council is seeking your opinion on how best to add more greenery to the neighborhoods where you and your friends live.

What should the city focus on to increase green space? What do you think?

- Option A: Plant more trees along streets and in public squares.

- Option B: Convert vacant lots into small neighborhood parks and gardens.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

As someone who frequently longs for nearby green retreats after busy days, I strongly favor converting vacant lots into neighborhood parks and gardens (Option B). These spaces would offer much-needed opportunities for relaxation, exercise, and social connection. While more street trees improve air quality and appearance, well-designed parks deliver greater benefits for both physical and mental well-being of local residents like myself.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

Living in a neighborhood with few green areas makes me want more local parks. If the city turns empty lots into parks or gardens, it would give families and friends a place to meet and spend time together. Planting trees helps the environment, but parks are more useful for the community. I would choose option B.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

In my area, there are not many parks, so I think the city should make parks in empty lots. My friends and I would have a nice place to play or relax. Trees are great, but parks are better for people to use. That’s why I like option B.
