CELPIP Speaking Task 2 Sample Answer: A Language Learning Breakthrough

A language learning breakthrough that stands out to me was when I was learning French during my university years. I had been studying for over a year, but I always felt too shy to speak because I was afraid of making mistakes. One summer, I traveled to Paris, and on my first day, I got lost and had to ask for directions. To my surprise, I managed to have a full conversation with a local in French, explaining my situation and understanding their instructions. It wasn’t perfect, but they were so kind and encouraging, and for the first time, I felt like I could actually communicate in the language. That moment was a turning point—it boosted my confidence immensely and motivated me to immerse myself even more in the language, eventually leading me to fluency.

I had a language learning breakthrough when I was studying Spanish. I had been practicing for months, but I always struggled to speak with native speakers. One day, I went to a Spanish restaurant and ordered my food completely in Spanish, and the waiter understood me perfectly. I even had a short conversation with him about the food. I felt so proud of myself, and it gave me more confidence to keep learning the language.

I learn English one time. I not speak good, but one day I talk to my teacher. I say full sentence, and she understand. I feel happy because I speak better. I want to learn more.
