The question

Your city is rapidly developing, but affordable housing is becoming harder to find. Officials are seeking residents’ input on the best solutions to this growing problem.

How should your city address affordable housing needs? What’s your opinion?

- Option B: Offer incentives for private developers to include affordable units in new buildings.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

To truly tackle the affordable housing crisis, I believe constructing more government-subsidized housing units (Option A) is the most effective solution. This approach ensures that vulnerable populations, such as low-income families and seniors, have direct access to safe, stable, and reasonably priced homes. Relying on incentives for private developers (Option B) does not guarantee that enough affordable units will be built, and such units may not remain affordable in the long term. By expanding public housing, the city can address immediate needs and support community stability and diversity for years to come.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

Building more government-subsidized housing is the most direct way to address the need for affordable homes. With public housing, the city can control rent prices and make sure that people with lower incomes have access to safe apartments. While incentives for private developers can help, they might not always build enough affordable units. Option A is more reliable and helps people who need it most. That is why I support building more government housing.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I think the city should build more government housing. Many people cannot pay high rent. If the city builds more affordable homes, families and students will have a place to live. Sometimes, private developers do not want to make cheap apartments. The city needs to help people who have less money. That is why I choose option A. It is the best way to make sure everyone has a good home.
