CELPIP in Nigeria: Test Centres in Lagos and Abuja, Registration and Prep
By CELPass Editorial Team · Updated
CELPIP is now offered in Nigeria, giving Express Entry candidates an alternative to IELTS General Training. This guide covers where to take it, how to book and pay, what score to aim for and how to prepare. Centres, dates and fees change often, so confirm them on the official CELPIP website before you pay.
Can I take the CELPIP test in Nigeria?
Yes. CELPIP-General is offered at official test centres in Nigeria, and IRCC accepts the result for Express Entry and other permanent residence programs in the same way as a test taken in Canada.
Australia's Department of Home Affairs has also accepted CELPIP-General for visa applications since 7 August 2025.
Where are the CELPIP test centres in Nigeria?
Official CELPIP listings show centres in Lagos (Victoria Island and Yaba) and in Abuja. Lagos has had the most regular sittings, so check which centre has dates before you plan travel.
| City | Centre (from official CELPIP listings) |
|---|---|
| Lagos, Victoria Island | Dragnet Prometric Test Centre |
| Lagos, Yaba | Centerbase Yaba |
| Abuja | Dragnet Test Center Abuja (Galaxy Uniprep Center, Kado District) |
Applicants from Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Enugu and other cities usually travel to Lagos or Abuja. Arrive the day before if you can, so traffic or a delayed flight does not cost you the sitting.
How much does CELPIP cost in Nigeria, and how do I pay?
The fee for Nigerian sittings is shown when you book on the CELPIP website and is paid online. Many Nigerian cards limit foreign-currency payments, so check your card's international limit before you start, or use a card that supports international online payments.
Third-party payment services and agents are not part of CELPIP. If you use one, pay only through services you trust, book the test in your own CELPIP account, and keep every receipt.
How do I register for CELPIP in Nigeria?
Create an account on the official CELPIP website using your name exactly as it appears on your passport, choose CELPIP-General, pick a Lagos or Abuja sitting and pay online.
- Create your CELPIP account with your passport name and an email you check often.
- Choose CELPIP-General (CELPIP-General LS is for Canadian citizenship only).
- Filter sittings by city and pick a date that leaves time for one full mock test first.
- Pay online and save the confirmation.
- Bring your original international passport on test day.
Should I take CELPIP or IELTS in Nigeria?
Choose CELPIP if you want a single computer-based sitting with a recorded Speaking section and Canadian everyday contexts; choose IELTS General Training if CELPIP has no date in time for your deadline or you prefer a live examiner. IRCC treats both equally after conversion to CLB.
IELTS has many more centres and dates in Nigeria. CELPIP's advantages are a predictable format, scores that read directly as CLB, and Speaking that is recorded rather than face to face, which some candidates find less stressful.
What CELPIP score do I need for Canada?
Federal Skilled Worker applicants need at least CLB 7 in every skill, and Canadian Experience Class needs CLB 7 or CLB 5 depending on the job's TEER level. Most Express Entry candidates from Nigeria aim for CLB 9 in all four skills to maximise CRS points.
Which Nigerian English habits cost marks in CELPIP?
Nigerian test takers are usually fluent and confident, and lose marks mainly on register and a few expressions that read differently in Canada. Small swaps fix most of them.
| Common in Nigeria | More natural in CELPIP |
|---|---|
| I am coming. (meaning I'll be right back) | I'll be right back. |
| Kindly find attached... / Kindly assist. | I've attached... / Could you please help? |
| I will flash you later. | I'll call you later. |
| Please extend my greetings to your wife. | Say hi to your wife for me. (in a friendly email) |
| I want to branch at the store. | I want to stop by the store. |
| The meeting has been shifted. | The meeting has been moved / postponed. |
In Speaking, fast delivery can hurt Listenability. Slow down slightly, pronounce word endings clearly, and keep your answer organised with simple linking phrases such as "First", "Another reason" and "So overall".
How should I prepare for CELPIP from Nigeria?
Take a timed diagnostic, practise your weakest skill daily and take at least one full mock test before you book. Practise with Canadian audio, such as CBC Radio, because accents and everyday Canadian topics are the biggest change for most Nigerian candidates.
