CELPIP in India: Test Centres, Registration, Fees and How to Prepare

More and more Express Entry candidates in India choose CELPIP over IELTS. This guide covers where you can take it, how to book, what score to aim for and how to prepare from India. Centres, dates and fees change, so confirm them on the official CELPIP website before you pay.
Can I take the CELPIP test in India?
Yes. CELPIP-General is offered at official test centres across India, and the official CELPIP India page lists 25 test centres in 15 cities. It is the same computer-delivered test that is taken in Canada, with the same scoring, and IRCC accepts it for Express Entry and other permanent residence programs.
Since 7 August 2025, Australia's Department of Home Affairs also accepts CELPIP-General for visa applications, so one test result can keep both options open.
Where are the CELPIP test centres in India?
Official CELPIP centre listings include New Delhi, Gurgaon (Gurugram), Chandigarh, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, among others. Many are run by Prometric or other approved test partners.
Not every centre has a sitting every week. Search your city on the CELPIP website, check the next available dates, and allow travel time if the nearest centre with a date is in another city: Punjab and Haryana candidates often choose between Chandigarh and the Delhi area.
How much does CELPIP cost in India?
The fee is set per centre in Indian rupees plus applicable taxes, and it has changed several times, so the reliable figure is the one shown at checkout on the CELPIP website. Official centre pages have shown different amounts over time, which is why we do not quote one here.
Budget for the possibility of a second attempt: every sitting is paid in full, and a retake usually costs more than the practice that would have avoided it.
How do I register for CELPIP in India?
Create an account on the official CELPIP website, choose CELPIP-General, pick a centre and date in India, and pay online. Use your name exactly as it appears on your passport, because the ID you bring on test day must match your booking.
- Create your CELPIP account with your passport name and a personal email you will keep.
- Choose CELPIP-General (CELPIP-General LS is only for Canadian citizenship, which you apply for from inside Canada).
- Filter test sittings by city and pick a date that leaves time for one full mock test first.
- Pay online and save the confirmation email.
- Check the ID rules and arrival time in the confirmation, and bring your original passport.
Should I take CELPIP or IELTS in India?
Choose CELPIP if you prefer a computer test in one sitting with Canadian accents and everyday Canadian situations; choose IELTS General Training if you need more centres and dates nearby or prefer speaking to a live examiner. IRCC treats both the same once your scores are converted to CLB.

What CELPIP score do I need for Canada?
Federal Skilled Worker applicants need at least CLB 7 in every skill, and Canadian Experience Class needs CLB 7 or CLB 5 depending on the job's TEER level. Most Express Entry candidates from India aim for CLB 9 in all four skills, because that is where language CRS points rise sharply.

Which Indian English habits cost marks in CELPIP?
Indian English is fully understood by raters, but a few common expressions read as unnatural in a Canadian test and can pull Vocabulary and Readability down a level. The fix is usually a small swap.

In Speaking, the bigger risks are speed and fillers. Many strong speakers rush and run out of ideas at 45 seconds, or repeat "basically" and "actually". Slow down slightly, plan two or three points, and use the whole speaking time.
How should I prepare for CELPIP from India?
Start with a timed diagnostic to find your weakest skill, then practise that skill daily and take at least one full mock test before you book. Most working candidates need two to six weeks, depending on the gap to their target CLB.
- Listening: get used to Canadian accents with CBC Radio and Canadian podcasts, and take notes as you listen.
- Reading: practise under the timer; Part 4 (viewpoints) is where most time runs out.
- Writing: learn the email and survey templates, and get feedback on tone, not only grammar.
- Speaking: record yourself with the real timers and listen back for pace and missed points.
