The question

You often use public transit to commute across the city and have become more aware of the pollution caused by older buses. Now, the city is asking frequent riders like you for feedback on the best ways to make the transit system cleaner and more sustainable for the future.

How should your city invest in green transit? What do you think?

- Option A: Replace old buses with electric or hybrid vehicles.

- Option B: Build more protected bike lanes connecting to public transport stations.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

As someone who regularly relies on public transit, I strongly support replacing old buses with electric or hybrid vehicles (Option A). Cleaner buses would not only reduce urban emissions but also improve the daily commuting experience for riders like myself. While expanding bike lanes supports sustainable travel, modernizing the bus fleet delivers broader and more immediate environmental benefits to the entire city.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

Since I use public transportation every day, I notice how much pollution comes from old buses. If the city replaces these with electric or hybrid ones, the air will be cleaner and the buses will be quieter. Protected bike lanes are helpful for some people, but most riders use buses. Option A benefits a larger group of commuters, including me.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

As a bus rider, I think the city should buy new electric or hybrid buses. The old buses make a lot of smoke, and it’s bad for the air. If we have new clean buses, it will help everyone breathe easier. Bike lanes are good, but I don’t ride a bike often. That’s why I pick option A.
