Transcript (read it after you answer)

Olivia: Okay, book club members, we need to plan our annual event to celebrate our love of reading. It should be fun and open to new members. Any ideas?

Henry: I think a literary trivia night would be awesome. We could form teams, have book-themed questions, and offer small prizes. It’s a great way to engage everyone.

Sam: Trivia’s fun, Henry, but it might exclude people who haven’t read all the books we’ve discussed. What about a guest author talk? It could attract new members and be inspiring.

Olivia: A guest author sounds amazing, but it could be hard to book someone on our budget. What if we do something simpler, like a themed book swap? Everyone brings a book, and we exchange them while discussing our favorites.

Henry: I like the book swap idea, but it might feel too casual for an annual event. What about combining ideas? We could host a “Readers’ Café” evening with coffee, desserts, and short readings from favorite books. It’s social and inclusive.

Sam: That’s a great compromise! The café vibe would be cozy, and the readings would spark conversation. My only concern is the venue—our usual meeting room might be too small for a bigger crowd.

Olivia: Good point, Sam. We could rent the community center’s lounge. It’s affordable and has a warm atmosphere, perfect for a café setting. The only downside is we’d need to arrange the catering.

Henry: Catering shouldn’t be too hard. We could ask members to bring desserts and just buy coffee and tea. That keeps costs low and makes it a group effort.

Sam: I’m sold on the Readers’ Café. We can promote it as a cozy, literary evening to draw new members. Let’s also create a signup sheet for the readings so everyone gets a chance to share.

Olivia: Perfect. Let’s go with the Readers’ Café at the community center. Henry, can you check the lounge availability?

Henry: Yep, I’ll call them tomorrow.

Sam: I’ll draft a flyer and post it on our social media page.

Olivia: Great. I’ll handle the signup sheet and coordinate the catering. This is going to be our best event yet!
