The question

Urban areas consume large amounts of energy and contribute to pollution. Adopting renewable energy policies can help cities become more sustainable and reduce environmental impact.

Which renewable energy policy should cities implement first?

-Option A: Require all new buildings to use solar panels for electricity.

-Option B: Offer free workshops and tours on renewable energy for interested residents.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

Mandating solar panels on all new buildings (Option A) is, in my opinion, the most impactful policy for urban sustainability. This requirement ensures consistent growth in renewable energy usage and immediately reduces a city’s carbon footprint. While educational initiatives like workshops and tours (Option B) are valuable for raising awareness, their influence depends on voluntary participation and may result in slower progress. By making solar energy a standard in new construction, cities can achieve measurable environmental benefits quickly and set an example for future developments. This direct approach accelerates the transition to cleaner energy and supports long-term ecological health.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I prefer that cities require solar panels on all new buildings. This policy forces builders to use renewable energy and helps reduce pollution right away. While workshops and tours can teach people about renewable energy, only interested residents might participate, so the effect would be smaller. If every new building uses solar energy, the city will become cleaner faster. Therefore, option A is a more effective solution for making cities greener.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I think cities should require new buildings to use solar panels. This way, buildings will use clean energy from the sun. It helps reduce pollution and saves money on electricity. Workshops are interesting, but not everyone will go to them. If solar panels are used in every new building, it will make a big difference. That’s why I think option A is the best choice for helping the environment.
