The question

Your city is planning its budget for public events and wants resident input after seeing debates over big festivals versus local gatherings. They’ve sent a survey to decide how to spend the funds, aiming to pick events that best fit the community’s needs and joy. This is your chance to influence what happens in your city!

Which option do you prefer? Why?

-Option A: Invest in more large-scale concerts and festivals.

-Option B: Fund smaller community-based events and cultural programs.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

I strongly advocate for Option B, as funding smaller community-based events and cultural programs fosters deeper social engagement and long-term benefits. Large-scale festivals generate excitement, but they often cater to temporary entertainment rather than sustained community enrichment. In contrast, local events such as art workshops, cultural performances, and educational programs create lasting opportunities for residents to connect, learn, and celebrate diversity. Furthermore, community-driven events are more inclusive. They provide accessible and meaningful participation for all age groups, ensuring that public funds serve a wider demographic rather than being concentrated on a few high-profile occasions. Investing in grassroots cultural initiatives strengthens the social fabric of our city and creates a more engaged and connected community.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I support Option B because smaller community events offer more long-term benefits for residents. First, community events bring people together and help strengthen local relationships. Unlike large festivals, which attract big crowds but little interaction, smaller programs allow for more meaningful connections. Second, cultural events provide educational opportunities. Workshops, art shows, and storytelling events allow people to explore different traditions and learn new skills. While large concerts can be entertaining, they benefit fewer people. Community-based events serve a wider audience and create lasting cultural value.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I choose Option B because smaller events are better for the community. They help people meet their neighbors and learn about different cultures. Also, big concerts cost a lot of money, and not everyone can attend them. Small events can happen more often, and more people can join. Cultural programs like dance shows and art classes are good for learning. I think this is better than spending all the money on big concerts.
