The question

Your neighborhood community center has received additional funding and is planning to introduce a new program for residents. Some members suggest using the funds to create fitness classes and wellness programs such as yoga, aerobics, and strength training, which would promote a healthy lifestyle. Others believe the funds should be used for arts and culture activities, including painting, music lessons, and theater workshops, to encourage creativity and cultural appreciation. Since only one program can be introduced, the community center is seeking input from residents to make the best decision.

Which option do you prefer? Why?

-Option A: Invest in fitness and wellness programs to promote physical health.

-Option B: Invest in arts and culture programs to support creativity and self-expression.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

I strongly advocate for Option A, as prioritizing fitness and wellness programs would yield the greatest benefits for community members. Physical inactivity is a growing concern, contributing to obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health challenges. Providing structured fitness classes at the community center would make exercise accessible and affordable for residents, leading to improved public health outcomes. Additionally, wellness programs such as yoga and meditation promote stress relief and mental well-being. Studies have shown that regular physical activity enhances productivity, mood, and overall life satisfaction, making it a crucial investment in our community’s well-being. While arts and culture are important, health is a foundational necessity. Investing in fitness programs ensures long-term benefits for all residents, creating a healthier and more vibrant community.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I support Option A because fitness and wellness programs provide significant benefits to the community. First, regular exercise helps people stay fit and reduces the risk of diseases such as heart problems and diabetes. By offering fitness programs, the community center would encourage a healthier lifestyle. Second, wellness activities like yoga and meditation improve mental health. Many people experience stress, and these programs provide a way to relax and feel better. While arts and culture programs are valuable, physical health should be a priority. A strong, healthy community benefits everyone.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I choose Option A because exercise is very important for health. Many people work long hours and do not have time to go to the gym. If the community center has fitness classes, more people can stay healthy. Also, activities like yoga and aerobics help people feel good and reduce stress. Many people want to exercise but do not know how. Classes will help them learn. Art is nice, but being healthy is more important. I think fitness programs will help more people.
