The question

Welcoming newcomers helps build strong, diverse communities. Supporting new immigrants can ease their adjustment and encourage long-term success.

Which approach should your community use to support new immigrants?

-Option A: Offer practical orientation sessions on housing, healthcare, and job searching.

-Option B: Organize monthly cultural exchange events and social gatherings.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

In my view, providing orientation sessions focusing on housing, healthcare, and employment (Option A) is far more effective for new immigrants. Navigating unfamiliar systems can be daunting, so practical support directly addresses their most urgent concerns. Although cultural exchange events (Option B) foster social connections and mutual understanding, these are typically secondary to securing stable living conditions and employment. By prioritizing essential information, communities empower newcomers to integrate with confidence and independence.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I would select orientation sessions because they address immediate needs such as finding a place to live, getting medical help, and searching for work. Without this information, new immigrants might struggle or feel lost. While social events can help people make friends and learn about different cultures, practical sessions give them the tools to settle faster. Therefore, option A is more helpful, especially at the beginning.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I think orientation sessions about housing, healthcare, and finding jobs are most important. New immigrants often don’t know where to start when they arrive. If they get this information, it is easier for them to live in the new place. Cultural events are fun, but basic needs come first. When people understand how things work, they feel more comfortable and safe. That’s why I choose option A.
