The question

Affordable and accessible child care is a major concern for many families. Communities must find solutions to help parents balance work and family life.

What should your city do to help parents with child care?

- Option A: Provide financial subsidies to lower child care costs for families in need.

- Option B: Open new community centers with free or low-cost after-school programs.

Please choose one option and explain your preference.

Write about 150-200 words.

Excellent answer: around CLB 11–12

I strongly support providing financial subsidies to lower child care costs for families (Option A). Such assistance directly addresses the affordability issue, giving parents the flexibility to select care that best suits their needs and schedules. Although additional community centers (Option B) would expand after-school support, subsidies benefit a wider range of families, including those requiring full-day or specialized care. Ultimately, targeted financial aid promotes both access and choice, helping parents achieve a better work-life balance.

Good answer: around CLB 7–8

I would pick financial subsidies for families. These subsidies help parents pay for the child care they choose, whether it’s a daycare or a babysitter. Although community centers with after-school programs are useful, not all families have older children or need just after-school help. By offering subsidies, the city gives parents more options, making life easier for different kinds of families.

Basic answer: around CLB 4–5

I think giving families money to help pay for child care is the best idea. Many parents can’t afford good child care because it is expensive. If the city helps pay, more children can go to safe places. After-school programs are good too, but some parents need help all day. That’s why I choose option A.
